The Outsiders Let Rip in Leeds
The Outsiders wowed their audience at Seven Arts last Friday night. This was the first public performance by the Leeds based 10 piece, whose members all have learning difficulties. They performed to a packed house and already have loyal band of followers. At the end of a fantastic night audience members said it was “absolutely fabulous” and “great, amazing, wonderful!” One person said “I did not see the Sex Pistols at the 100 Club but at least I got to see the first performance by the Outsiders.” They will certainly be back for more on 26th March at the Carriageworks.
The band was formed with through the Let Rip project - one of over 213 winning projects, funded from the Government as part of a ‘learning for pleasure’ innovation spearheaded by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).
The band benefits from the musical skills and industry knowledge and experience of Liz Leach, Sharon Horsfall and Lanre Phillip from Standpoint. They rehearse at Old Chapel studios, run by Mark Hubbard, the studio has a history of fostering local talent. The Kaiser Chiefs and the Pigeon Detectives practiced there.
Their next performance is on 26th March at the Carriageworks (0113 224 3801) in the
Centre of Leeds. Tickets cost £6 and are available from the Carriage Works. As funding for the project ends this month this could be the last chance to see them in Leeds for some time. Don’t miss it

The projects, many spearheaded by partnerships between public, private and third sector organisations, will help improve mental health, physical well-being, active citizenship and community cohesion, as well as providing a stepping stone towards further learning, qualifications and employment for many people.
