From 1st January uhad2bthere is changing its name to Disability Direct and can now be found online at www.disabilitydirect.org
Despite being one of the most popular disability sites in the UK with over a thousand visitors a week in 2009, there is no getting away from the fact that as a name uhad2bthere is not ideal. According to the sites founder, George Johnson, when asked about how the name came about said,
“uhad2bthere started as a writing and short story website nearly 10 years ago. I suppose in that context the name makes sense, you had to be there. Then when I came up with the idea for the disability directory I had the domain already, I had no idea the new site would take off in quite the way is has.”
“Disability Direct is more descriptive and hopefully will bring in even more visitors who will find the directory and blogs a useful resource.”
Though the site name has changed much of the great content remains, including the News Blog and of course, the Directory. Regular contributors and link owners can still use the old email addresses and URLs, but the site has a new email address too, info@disabilitydirect.org and it would be great if people could update their contacts and favourites to the new domain name.

Happy New Year George and here's wishing you a successful one with the new image.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree as our Charity name Disabled Holiday Information was highly appropriate 10 years ago but now does not reflect all the other work around awareness training and access advice that our volunteers carry out.
We are in the process of setting up a more appropriate name for this section of our work which we have its own website. I will update our info on your directory when this is in place.
Best wishes Sue
I'm extremely concerned that this name is not original and can be confused with the existing Disability Information and Advice service Disability Direct: www.disabilitydirect.com, www.disabilitydirectderby.co.uk
ReplyDeleteHello Nimbus Blogger,
ReplyDeleteI am aware of both disabilitydirect.com and disabilitydirectderby.co.uk and they both do sterling work. If I inadvertently cause them any problems by the name change I will try to find a solution that suits us all.
Disability Direct already exists as a national charity based in the Midlands with some services covering the whole country. We are registered with Companies House & The Charity Commission (since 1993). This adoption of an existing name WILL cause problems. I therefore request a re-think.
