A NEW scheme has been launched for Antrim's elderly and vulnerable residents. Good Morning Antrim aims to provide reassurance to older and other vulnerable adults within the community, through daily telephone calls and support.
The services are generic, meeting needs of a wide range of users including older people, disabled people, people with addictions, people with mental health issues and people experiencing domestic violence.
They also provide users with pathways to local community and statutory services and activities.
Research first began on the service in 2007, when organiser identified the increasing number of elderly and vulnerable people living alone or feeling isolated, within the Antrim and District area.
Based in the Family Caring Centre, the group has a long history and a wealth of experience regarding 'Community Development' and introducing this service was the next logical step.
Good Morning services adds to, and addresses gaps in statutory provision by reaching people at risk who may not be accessing mainstream services and not known to social services because of self referrals, referrals from family, community workers, pharmacists, or General Practitioners.
Good Morning is a service for, and additional to Health & Social Care services, continuing beyond statutory interventions and connecting with people through periods of health and ill-health.
The location of Good Morning services in community and voluntary organisations adds value because the providers have in depth knowledge of their area and of the opportunities available for users. They have the capacity to customise the service to meet the needs of their area.
Good Morning Antrim currently provide over 30 calls per week, with the support of volunteers, and continues to encourage referrals, either by self or from another agency.
Along with Antrim town a service is also provided to those living in Toome, Randalstown, Parkgate, Templepatrick and Crumlin.
For further information or referrals please telephone Louise Goodman on 028 9446 4619
