Children in Need drop disability group

SHETLAND Islands Council might consider plugging a £34,000 funding hole at Disability Shetland after an external funder announced they were pulling out.

The charity, which provides social and recreational activities for young people with complex needs, has received support predominantly from Children in Need.

CiN has now informed Disability Shetland that the current year's funding will be reduced and cease altogether thereafter.

Yesterday's SIC services committee agreed to enter into a dialogue with the charity to explore ways in which the service could continue despite no budget being available within the council.
