A woman from Devon has become the first person in the UK to be given a guide dog who is trained to help wheelchair users
Stephanie Read, from Torquay, who is registered blind and uses a wheelchair, used to rely on a carer to help her with daily tasks.
But now she is being assisted by Vegas, a five-year-old black labrador.
The pilot scheme will be rolled out to other sight-impaired wheelchair users if it proves successful.
Ms Read said Vegas was trained to make sure there was nothing which might cause her wheelchair to topple over when he was leading her along pavements and across roads.
